Re Cap: FRIDAY November 13, 2009. Brooklyn VS. The Bronx

I was born and raised in Harlem, and this event represented the artist that currently reside at their borough. I have moved from Brooklyn back to Manhattan and now landed into The Bronx. I was chosen to paint in collaboration with Andre Trenier our group represented The Bronx, while Ben Angotti and Leif M. represented Brooklyn. at the "M1-5".

I had so much fun! I laughed hard, I saw many great people from networks that I actually was able to see in person. Completely honored to have them all arrive and see this event. As plus for this event was B Boy 360 and his beloved son 5 year old son, Tyger! Tyger is my son dancer friend that has has many fun days in the parks. Seeing him again reminded me of my son... I saw him dance hard core on the dance floor right after the tap dancer was stomping rhythmically all over the place.

I ain't gonna leave anything out, I must say, Andre and I weren't prepare visually as we had hoped to, to prepare for this collaborative piece. We head butted together as to what to create for this night, from crazy color schemes to subject matter, the toss up of ideas flew in every which way directions. But we fell together in on thought... the thought of : JUST HAVING FUN.

Andre Started taking photographs of the audience at the spot and then painted them on the canvas, I did the same, but earlier on that event, Osiris and Floramancha, cool art kats came by this event to provide us visual reference to help our disorganized thoughts. ( we did try to meet during the passing of the weeks before the event started, but couldn't find an actual time to discuss any art thoughts), so our free style did some how save the day, for the result of the show, we were " tied "with the opponent team. Its alright, the fun part counted more then ever! Lexi Bella was on the scene as many other artist and art lover enthusiasts.. took pictures auto graphs, say and got diggity down on them dance floors! I on the other had, made sure I took the Q train to 14 street to then catch the 4 line up in the belly of the Boggy Down Bronx.

Re Cap: November 7th "Art Battle" Event Colabo pieces

Yatika Field Starr is a Native American artist that now resides in Brooklyn. This guy has a unique style all kinda brand new to my eyes. His persona is awesome and works well with me and other artist. At this Art Battle event, we all 4 artist, had to use two colors, Black and white, and anything in between.

half hour one artist then a break and then half hour the tag team art partners work onto the already worked on work. Then after the half hour is done, 2o minutes the teams are grouped together by two on two. This is where the magic begin!

Re Cap: Art Battle, Intermix Clothing, Rihanna awsome showdown

"Star Struck" That's how I was.... My highlight of the night was really enjoying the night and viewing so many people and the media. I was confused at first as to why where there so many people organizing others to "move right here", "stay there and I will signal you in" even BODY GUARDS...or the F.B.I. stylo. As the night progressed forward, I then put things together and realized there were gonna be "important" people entering this store. All the camera people, and photographers, looked thirsty and at the ready, as the coordinator was orchestrating the people in and also outside of Intermix clothing store. I was able to see all of this since I was standing onto a window platform, were Leif and my self was Painting Live on mannequins.

There were two major "important" people that did showed up last night, Rihanna the singer and The creator of VOGUE magazine. Although I don't know the latter, I was able to see how of an impact her appearance was as the flashing of the lights went on like fire works inside the store. What was even fascinating to me was the crowd I saw outside. The street was like a wave of many different people, viewing in, and trying to get closer to the window and inside the store and while others were moving out from the store and into the massive block of fidgety people... I felt as I was in L.A. By the way, these pictures were taken by my other awesome art pal, Andre T. . I saw Danielle M., and many other cool art appreciators and Art Battles regulars... ha ha ha , if there was such a word. I didn't win the battle, but I was so happy to be apart of something so great!
** Star Stuck ** I was viewing Rhianna, being filmed and taken photographs of, and as she turned around and talked a bit with others, she looks my way, and I took the cheesy chance to wave at her, not sure if she could see me with them big dark SUN GLASSES she was wearing, but she actually did ! I waved at her and she waved back... I felt like singing S.O.S please some one help me, its unhealthy... ha ha ha ha ha

I never was into clubbing, or partying ( parents), but on April 21, 2009 I will be hosting along side of the fabulous Lexi Bella at Boucarou Lounge in New York City, our shared birthday month APRIL. This event is not just for us to celebrate our love for our existence, but also our shared love for painting Live. Lexi Bella and I have invited our favorite friends to join us and paint live with us on this special night.
I sure wish to see you too there, since its a free admission and a up close and personal event with my dearest and close friends and you. A few of my artist friends will be painting live with me, go check them out, they are wicked cool and super amazing with their art talents!

Art Battles Ala Prima

"OH, it is so on! Hand over your milk money, you beret-wearing, art school romantics. Outta the way, wine- and-cheese-eating, card-carrying MoMA members.

ArtBattles gets under way January 23 at (le) Poisson Rouge in the Village - and the fast-paced "live art" show is all about trash-talking, in-your-face painting - albeit among polite skinny kids who genuinely seem to like each other.

Basically, it goes down like this: The artists are each given $100 to paint whatever the moderator assigns.� The competition? Faux fierce.

"It's not as much a sterile environment as 'Iron Chef,' but that's something we talk about," says ArtBattles founder Sean Bono, who has organized more than 100 of these fast-paced battle royales since 2001. Competitions have occured in alleys, apartments and wherever else he could find space. Thanks to an MTV segment in May 2007, ArtBattles' surge in popularity has brought it to more mainstream venues.

More about palettes than palates, this ArtBattles showdown features a half-dozen contestants who don't know what they'll be working on. Previous contests have seen participants limited to just a couple of colors, confined to themes like love and hate, asked to use live nude models or - on the MTV show - paint a new version of MTV's logo.

"It's changed my paint steeze and made me a better artist . . . it's made my style iller," says 28-year-old Concep, who won the MTV battle. (Translation: The nature of the contest has made him more prolific, enhanced his work and improved his methodology greatly.)

The flashy New Orleans native, who now resides in Crown Heights, Brooklyn will be gunning for fellow Pratt grad and art battler Ben Angotti, 27. "He's beaten me bad before and I had my girl with me, and you know what I'm saying?" asks Concep. "I can't have it go down like that again."

Angotti feels no remorse.

"I would say it's friendly, but there's always some longtime rivalries," says the Angotti.

Karioki Crosby, a 33-year-old Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn resident, likes that ArtBattles helps him "exercise" his arm for the calligraphy-inspired, continuous-motion Asian-style painting he enjoys. But all Zen aside, if a competitor gets frisky, he jokes that he just might "push them off a stage."

The only female participant this time around will be

Harlem-raised Marthalicia Matarrita, 30, who teamed up with her brother and won a doubles ArtBattles competition a couple months ago.

"Hell yeah," Matarrita says the audience feedback makes painting a little more exciting, if not sometimes distracting.

Like Concep, Matarrita says ArtBattles has not only helped her work, but it's aided the art community as spontaneous street art continues to gain in popularity.

Leif McIlwaine enjoys a home-field advantage when

his Greenpoint, Brooklyn graffiti art store Alphabeta Shop occasionally hosts ArtBattles. McIlwaine has won about a half-dozen competitions.

Cash prizes rarely top $200 and may sometimes be a plaque or art supplies.

Art collectors who want a piece of the action can view the pieces at artbattles.com, where works sell for $100 to $500.
